About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Support veterinarians and veterinary technicians in ensuring pet well-being
Apply technical skills in surgery, dentistry, laboratory procedures, venipuncture, restraint, anesthesia, and surgical assistance
Contribute to efficient day-to-day hospital operations
Maintain accurate medical charts and meet hospital quality control standards
Educate clients about Wellness Plans, pet care, and overall health
Perform reception duties including answering phones, scheduling appointments, and facilitating patient intake and discharge
Obtain medical histories and patient information
Manage hospital supplies, inventory tracking, and restocking
Provide professional, efficient, and exceptional customer service
Adapt service to individual clients and resolve complaints as appropriate
Complete assigned hospital duties before the end of each shift
Adhere to OSHA standards and perform other assigned duties

Requirements

What you’ll need

High School Diploma or equivalent
6+ months of experience in the veterinary industry
Completion of an NAVTA-approved veterinary assistant program or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience (preferred)
Technical skills in surgery, dentistry, laboratory procedures, venipuncture, proper restraint techniques, anesthesia, and surgical assistance
Experience handling dogs, cats, and exotic animals
Knowledge of basic animal care, including feeding, bathing, grooming, and monitoring for distress or illness
Knowledge of common medical procedures, including administering medications, wound care, and assisting with diagnostic tests
Ability to work independently, exercise good judgment, multitask, prioritize, and work in a fast-paced environment
Ability to learn computer software systems such as EMR and scheduling systems
Strong customer service, communication, organizational, empathy, compassion, and approachability skills
Ability to complete work accurately while managing interruptions
Adherence to OSHA standards and company policies
Ability to lift 50+ pounds and perform physical activities including standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing
Good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity, reach and grasp ability, and visual acuity
Availability for schedules including 10+ hour shifts, Saturdays, evenings, and holidays
Ability to work onsite; remote work is not available
