About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own the Yocto-based Linux software platform
- Build Python application services running on the platform
- Design and build a new Yocto-based Linux image for next-generation hardware
- Drive migration of the device fleet to the new image
- Harmonize software across scanners, payment terminals, and screens into one maintainable codebase
- Design OS and application updates using A/B partitions, staged rollouts, and clean versioning
- Build real-time monitoring for device health, memory leaks, network stability, and hardware metrics
- Debug kernel, drivers, networking, memory, and application code on remotely deployed devices
- Contribute senior technical judgment to architecture discussions with IoT Platform, Backend, and AI teams
- Document technical decisions and mentor engineers
Requirements
What you’ll need- Hands-on experience building and maintaining embedded Linux products deployed in the field, ideally at fleet scale
- Confidence working with Linux internals, GNU tools, and Bash
- Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent practical experience
- Proven experience building, customizing, and maintaining Linux images using Yocto
- Strong Python skills
- Strong programming skills in at least one systems language such as C++, Rust, Go, or Java
- Solid understanding of Linux internals, bootloaders, systemd, drivers, kernel concepts, networking, and Docker
- Hands-on experience with GDB, tcpdump, Valgrind, UART, and JTAG
- Fluent English at C1 level
- Willingness to participate in a live coding session
- German language skills are an extra point
- Experience operating large-scale IoT fleets is an extra point
- Knowledge of industrial hardware, cameras, AI accelerators, modems, or network devices is an extra point
- Experience with computer vision, edge AI, or machine learning is an extra point
- Familiarity with MQTT and Protocol Buffers (ProtoBuf) is an extra point
