About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Create, manage and update project plans and timelines for client deliverables
  • Draft internal-facing documents such as meeting agendas and notes
  • Monitor media and relevant platforms for coverage of client issue-area news and developments
  • Consume news relevant to assigned clients
  • Research reporters, issue areas, potential stories and angles
  • Vet media and other communications opportunities for clients
  • Manage media inquiries and interview requests
  • Track industry trends and make recommendations regarding related strategies
  • Schedule internal, client and media meetings as needed
  • Work as a team member on assigned accounts
  • Contribute to strategy and recommendations for traditional and digital media platforms
  • Draft press releases, media advisories, pitch notes, op-eds, LTEs, talking points and social media content
  • Create and implement media outreach strategies
  • Research target media, build press lists, cultivate media relationships and communicate directly with reporters
  • Support rapid response efforts through opportunity identification, drafting, cross-team coordination and direct pitching
  • Identify trends and opportunities to cultivate and maintain media relationships
  • Liaise between clients and media, pitching daily under account-lead supervision
  • Contribute to campaigns using social media and paid media tactics
  • Recommend social media engagement around media hits
  • Perform other duties or special projects as assigned by a supervisor

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Three to five years of communications experience at an agency, non-profit, government, media organization, think tank/research organization or similarly fast-paced environment
  • Basic understanding of the modern media landscape
  • Background in strategic communications or public/media relations
  • Active consumer of the news
  • Excellent project management skills, including handling shifting and competing deadlines
  • Strong writing skills and media fluency
  • Project coordination experience
  • Prior experience managing rapid response communications
  • Experience drafting client-ready products
  • Experience engaging with media contacts
  • Track record of success in public relations, agency or issue advocacy work
  • Ability to develop and deliver communications strategies
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
  • Comfortable with Microsoft and Google Suite tools
  • Familiarity with Cision, Meltwater or other media contact databases
  • Understanding of the news and media landscape and culture
  • Established relationships with media
  • Ability to get up to speed on a topic quickly
  • Must submit a cover letter and resume
