Key responsibilities & impact
  • Partner with engineering, product, and business teams to design and deliver scalable technology solutions
  • Lead end-to-end solution architecture and technical design for new products, platforms, and business initiatives
  • Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions with engineering and business stakeholders
  • Drive cloud-native architecture decisions improving performance, reliability, scalability, and maintainability
  • Design and implement microservices-based platforms and distributed systems for enterprise-scale applications
  • Collaborate with global cross-functional teams to deliver technology solutions aligned with business objectives
  • Design API-first, event-driven architectures supporting real-time and batch payment flows
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance on architecture standards, design patterns, and development best practices
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend innovative solutions
  • Drive continuous improvement through performance optimization, troubleshooting, and operational excellence
  • Champion collaboration, innovation, and engineering excellence across the organization

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field and 10+ years of software engineering experience, or Master's degree and 8+ years of software engineering experience
  • 5+ years of experience designing and implementing enterprise software architectures
  • Experience building and deploying microservices-based applications at scale
  • Experience developing applications using Java and related enterprise technologies
  • Experience with web services, APIs, and modern distributed system design
  • Experience with software design patterns, object-oriented design, data structures, and algorithms
  • Experience working in Agile development environments utilizing continuous integration and continuous delivery practices
  • Experience partnering with business and technical stakeholders to deliver technology solutions
  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS Cloud, including EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, API Gateway, EventBridge, SQS, SNS, RDS, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, IAM, CloudWatch, and CloudTrail
  • Must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
  • Western Union will not sponsor applicants for work visas for this position
  • Preferred: experience within financial services, fintech, payments, or related regulated industries
  • Preferred: experience with digital banking platforms, wallets and stored-value systems, card issuing, authorization, clearing, and settlement, and domestic and cross-border payment rails
  • Preferred: experience architecting enterprise software platforms in banking, financial services, payments, fintech, or digital wallet environments
  • Preferred: experience designing and implementing cloud-based solutions using AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, or hybrid cloud environments
  • Preferred: experience defining enterprise architecture standards and influencing technical strategy across multiple teams
  • Preferred: experience evaluating and implementing emerging technologies
  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field is preferred
