About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Prepare and analyze loss and loss adjustment expense reserves across assigned lines of business
- Apply actuarial methods including loss development, Bornhuetter-Ferguson, and frequency/severity to estimate ultimate losses and reserve adequacy
- Perform quarterly and annual reserve reviews and document assumptions and judgments
- Communicate reserve indications and drivers of change to management and Financial Reporting
- Streamline and automate reserving processes to improve turnaround time, consistency, and data quality
- Develop and maintain reserving tools, models, and templates
- Partner with IT and Data teams to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort
- Conduct competitor and industry benchmarking studies
- Monitor external actuarial research, regulatory developments, and industry reserve adequacy studies
- Analyze emerging loss trends, claim frequency/severity shifts, and portfolio mix changes
- Provide technical guidance and support to team members
- Mentor Actuarial Analysts and less experienced Actuarial Consultants
- Support development of reserving methodologies, pricing oversight, and monitoring techniques
- May supervise 1–2 employees and support selection, performance management, coaching, and development
- Manage priorities and workload distribution and remove barriers to project progress
Requirements
What you’ll need- 7+ years of experience in Actuarial or a related field
- Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Sciences, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, Economics or related field and/or commensurate work experience
- Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS) required
- Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) preferred
- Knowledge of insurance products and the insurance industry
- Experience or proficiency in statistical modeling software
- Data analysis and reporting skills
- Competence in competitor benchmarking
- Knowledge of corporate reserving
- Reserving process optimization skills
- Business process improvement skills
- Financial acumen
