About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide strategic oversight, day-to-day management, and operational governance of WEX’s regulated electronic money institutions across EMEA
- Serve as primary operational liaison to the Central Bank of Ireland and Financial Conduct Authority
- Ensure entity operations align with compliance, risk management, governance, legal, and regulatory requirements
- Drive execution of strategic initiatives established by the WEX Group Executive Leadership Team and local Boards of Directors
- Oversee operational resilience frameworks for OFEL and OFL, including critical third-party and internal service providers
- Guide the OFEL and OFL Boards on operational resilience
- Manage, oversee, and monitor internal Outsourced Service Providers and external vendors
- Supervise the Outsourced Service Implementation Manager
- Direct IT-related operational matters, systemic stability, data security, and service delivery
- Take responsibility for annual certification and ongoing oversight of relevant employees under the CBI Individual Accountability Framework
- Manage Ireland- and UK-based personnel and operational expenditure with Finance Directors
- Identify and leverage AI, Large Language Models, automated reporting platforms, and other digital technologies
- Communicate business performance, emerging risks, regulatory changes, and strategic recommendations to the Group ELT and local Boards
- Maintain strategic relationships with commercial and ecosystem partners including Mastercard, eNett, and banking partners
- Provide guidance, mentorship, performance management, and development for Ireland- and UK-based staff
Requirements
What you’ll need- Progressive leadership experience in operations (IT ops, outsourcing, general management), legal, compliance, or risk management within a regulated financial services environment (EMIs or Payment Institutions strongly preferred)
- Proven track record of executive leadership within a regulated payments or card issuing environment, including practical operational knowledge of card scheme operations
- Extensive hands-on experience managing Outsourced Service Providers (OSPs) in compliance with FCA, EBA, and CBI outsourcing guidelines and industry best practices
- Demonstrated success supporting complex projects and navigating governance within a matrixed, multinational public organization
- Bachelor’s degree/Diploma in Management, Economics, Law, IT, or equivalent senior professional experience
- Deep commercial and structural understanding of the B2B e-money, card issuing, and payments landscape in Europe and the UK
- Proactive mindset towards adopting and championing modern technology tools, including Gemini, AI-driven workflow engines, and data visualization toolsets
- Exceptional stakeholder management skills, with proven ability to communicate complex operational and regulatory challenges to Board-level executives and international leadership
- Broad knowledge of international laws, regulatory expectations, and corporate governance standards applicable to multinational financial institutions
- Must be an Irish resident legally authorized to work in Ireland
- Must obtain formal approval by the Central Bank of Ireland’s Fitness and Probity team and FCA approval for the EMD role
- Must formally agree in writing to comply with the CBI’s Fitness and Probity Standards, OFEL Individual Accountability Framework, and WEX International Fitness & Probity Policy
- Strict adherence to WEX policies concerning conflicts of interest
- Ensure comprehensive governance, operational oversight, and orderly handover protocols and documentation
