About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Register, schedule, and reschedule dental patients in eCW and dental software
  • Update patient demographic, insurance, consent, and appointment information
  • Provide patient portal access and assistance
  • Explain Whitman-Walker services, appointment requirements, and community resources
  • Upload, label, and provide patient documents and correspondence
  • Verify commercial and public dental insurance eligibility and update claim data
  • Create and send telephone encounters to public benefits and billing departments
  • Complete, track, and resubmit dental prior authorizations
  • Contact patients for additional insurance information and documentation
  • Assemble dental treatment and referral documents and communicate with specialty offices
  • Collect and post co-pays, balances, and other out-of-pocket payments; maintain cash drawer and payment log
  • Monitor and respond to electronic communications
  • Notify patients about provider availability and explain no-show policies
  • Arrange interpreter services using available language-access resources
  • Participate in quality and performance improvement activities while maintaining HIPAA compliance and data integrity

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Associate degree or 2 years of equivalent work experience required
  • 1-3 years of experience in health care or dental services preferred
  • Fluency in dental terminology preferred
  • Fluency in written and oral Spanish or Amharic required
  • One-year of experience working with LGBTQIA+ communities preferred
  • One year of experience working with people living with HIV or issues related to HIV care preferred
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and learn quickly
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of HIPAA laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of eCW and computer software programs for dental services
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records
  • Flexibility to work afternoon/evening shifts, weekends, organization events, and various locations as necessary
  • Ability to lift no more than 20 lbs. infrequently
  • Standing and sitting for long periods; extended computer use and telephone engagement
