About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Complete a 12-week internship within WM’s Finance and Accounting groups
- Participate in two to three immersion experiences across Accounting, Corporate Finance, Internal Audit, Investor Relations, Treasury & Risk Management, and other departments
- Work within finance and accounting teams with mentor support
- Conduct analyses and deliver insights and recommendations
- Synthesize findings and provide oral and written recommendations to supervisors or managers
- Execute tasks related to functional projects and process improvements
- Communicate issues and roadblocks related to assigned responsibilities
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Corporate Development & Innovation, Digital, Marketing, Operations, Supply Chain, People, and Sustainability teams
- Build relationships and gather information from other WM groups
- Gain exposure to WM’s core businesses, operations, senior leaders, and sustainability activities
- Potentially work on projects such as analyzing acquisition targets and operational profitability
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or GED (accredited)
- Pursuing or recently completed an accredited Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to the internship
- Willingness and ability to build relationships and reach out to other groups to gather information
- Problem-solving skills
- Ability to conduct analysis and prepare insights and recommendations
- Ability to synthesize findings and draw conclusions
- Ability to make oral and written recommendations
- Ability to execute functional projects and/or process improvements
- Ability to communicate issues and roadblocks
- Must have, or be willing to obtain, a REAL ID or TSA-approved alternative if required to travel by air or access federal property
