About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Develop and maintain core components of Workato’s Recipe runtime, including recipe execution, DSL, event pulling, webhook processing, and job execution
Design and implement distributed backend systems in Go
Work on runtime-level components under high concurrency and throughput
Apply Go internals knowledge to improve system efficiency
Design and optimize concurrent workflows using goroutines, channels, synchronization primitives, and context propagation
Optimize slices, memory allocations, and data structures for performance-critical paths
Improve execution engine support for custom third-party code, including isolation, performance, and feature extensions
Modernize runtime components for modularity, structured architecture, and observability
Improve trigger configuration and execution across webhooks and polling mechanisms
Integrate and optimize Postgres, S3, DynamoDB, Kafka, and ClickHouse
Identify bottlenecks, race conditions, deadlocks, and performance degradation
Own initiatives from design through rollout and production support
Conduct code reviews focused on correctness, concurrency safety, and performance

Requirements

What you’ll need

7+ years of experience building scalable distributed backend applications
Strong understanding of large web application building blocks, including databases, load balancers, application servers, message brokers, caching, and monitoring
Understanding of network protocols and stacks
Understanding of classic database and modern NoSQL technologies
Knowledge of data structures and algorithms
Multilingual programming experience; codebase primarily Ruby, migrating toward Go and Rust
Excellent debugging, analytical, problem-solving, and social skills
BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related subject, with 7+ years of industry experience
Readiness to work remotely with teams distributed across the world and time zones
Nice to have: network programming, application/data security, physical database design, Docker and isolation technologies, public cloud infrastructure, DevOps/ML/DBA/enterprise applications, data processing pipelines, and third-party REST APIs at scale
