About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Load and unload cargo, mail, express, baggage, freight, and company material on and off aircraft
- Transport cargo between terminals and aircraft
- Perform ramp transfers of cargo as required
- Receive, deliver, and physically handle freight and company material at designated docks and baggage areas
- Complete forms and messages necessary for assigned functions
- Comply with WFS site security procedures
- Monitor staff, security contractors, and visitors and report security breaches, suspicious occurrences, or non-compliance
- Drive vehicles weighing 3,000 to 80,000 lbs. in congested aircraft operating areas
- Position loaded containers weighing up to 3,200 lbs. on aircraft rollers
- Perform or assist with aircraft push-out and towing procedures
- Provide ground-to-cockpit communication using hand signals and voice commands
- Read off-load sheets to determine cargo destinations
- Transport cargo using vehicles and attached carts
- Pull, push, and lift bags weighing up to 70 lbs. onto or from conveyor belts
- Connect water hoses and KVA electric cables to aircraft
- Confront and report unauthorized personnel in secured areas
- Report to work regularly and on time
Requirements
What you’ll need- HS Diploma, GED or Equivalent
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to work rotating shifts including weekends, holidays, and days off
- Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language
- Ability to lift up to 70 lbs.
- Ability to work in all types of weather and environmental conditions, including jet engine fumes, vehicle emissions, dust, and jet engine noise
- Ability to distinguish red, green, and yellow
- Ability to work in a high-noise level environment
- Ability to understand and react to verbal commands and safety warnings
- Ability to judge distances and use depth perception
- Ability to communicate with others
- Must join the TWU and pay union dues
