About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide comprehensive human resource advice and counsel to leadership, management, faculty, and staff
  • Serve assigned areas within WSU on employment practices, procedures, and policies
  • Advise managers on employee relations concerns, corrective and disciplinary actions, and personnel investigations
  • Resolve performance challenges and address workplace concerns
  • Support training and development efforts and guide performance management
  • Advise on recruitment, classification, and compensation matters
  • Contribute to program or policy development and organizational analysis
  • Foster collaborative and productive workplaces through open communication and best practices
  • Work within WSU Human Resource Services Employment Services team

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources, or related area and three (3) years of professional human resource experience for HR Consultant 1
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources, or related area and four (4) years of professional experience as a human resource generalist for HR Consultant 2
  • Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis
  • Experience handling complex employee relations issues, including conflict resolution, conducting investigations and reporting findings, corrective and disciplinary actions, and compliance with labor laws
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Experience interpreting, explaining, and applying state and federal laws, rules, policies and procedures, including labor laws, collective bargaining agreements, and contracts
  • Experience interacting with large groups and individuals at all work levels
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service and appropriate flexibility in response to issues and opposing points of view
  • Not eligible for work visa sponsorship
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or lawfully authorized non-U.S. citizen
  • Resume and cover letter required

  • Professional certification from a recognized human resource/personnel association preferred
  • Experience in labor relations, recruitment, classification, compensation, or Fair Labor Standards Act preferred
  • Human Resource experience in a higher education setting preferred
