About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Serve as the college’s thought leader for development, design, coordination, and implementation of the Emergency Medicine curriculum
- Report to the Chair of the Department of Medical Education & Clinical Sciences
- Integrate Emergency Medicine curriculum and assessment across all four years of the MD program
- Develop learning objectives, activities, and assessment methodologies
- Advise students and support faculty remediation plans
- Lead the fourth-year core Emergency Medicine course
- Design and approve elective experiences and teach across all four curriculum years
- Monitor course evaluations and aggregate student performance
- Ensure curriculum quality and comparability across campuses and affiliate sites
- Lead specialty-specific orientation and faculty development
- Support Emergency Medicine graduate medical education programs
- Recruit, onboard, mentor, evaluate, and retain faculty
- Support and develop Emergency Medicine clinical practice partner groups
- Guide faculty career planning, promotion, tenure pathways, and dossier preparation
- Address faculty concerns and facilitate conflict resolution
- Support the college’s Emergency Medicine and medical education research agenda
- Direct research, publications, presentations, and educational scholarship
- Participate in departmental leadership, strategic planning, policy development, and operational decision-making
- Identify growth opportunities, develop programs and services, and lead special projects
- Support quality, patient safety, performance improvement, and faculty practice integration
- Represent Emergency Medicine on committees, workgroups, and task forces
- Support fundraising initiatives and stakeholder relationships
- Travel to COM campuses and faculty practices throughout Washington State as needed
- Advise Emergency Medicine-interested students and guide residency applications and away rotations
- Complete Standardized Letters of Evaluation for Emergency Medicine-interested students
- Assist non-matching students through SOAP and the Scramble
Requirements
What you’ll need- Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent degree
- Board Certification in Emergency Medicine through ABEM
- Three or more years of clinical patient care experience in the specialty
- Three or more years of experience teaching, developing, evaluating, or leading educational programs at the undergraduate or graduate medical education level
- For Associate Rank: current or previous appointment at associate rank or equivalent at a post-secondary institution, or equivalent experience
- For Associate Rank: record of accomplishments commensurate with associate-rank standards
- For Full Professor Rank: current or previous appointment at full professor rank or equivalent at a post-secondary institution, or equivalent experience
- For Full Professor Rank: record of accomplishments commensurate with full-professor standards
- Preferred: experience developing medical school clinical courses
- Preferred: experience leading or managing professionals in a complex organization
- Preferred: experience managing multiple initiatives and multiple sites
- Preferred: academic faculty status at an allopathic or osteopathic medical school
- Preferred: experience with LCME and/or other accrediting bodies
- Preferred: experience working with diverse students or populations, especially in rural and underserved areas
- Must be a U.S. citizen or lawfully authorized non-U.S. citizen to work in the United States
