About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support development and growth of the WVUCI-wide Experimental Therapeutics Research Program
- Support the Associate Director for Translational Science with research project management and administrative tasks
- Supervise all Experimental Therapeutics staff and students
- Organize and manage required meetings, retreats, and seminars
- Support the Institute Director and provide strategic leadership and management support to committees
- Oversee program management and research project implementation for grants, subcontracts, and other projects
- Manage day-to-day programming
- Develop and submit IRB protocols
- Manage grant application processes, budgets, and progress and continuation reports
- Recruit, maintain, and supervise a program team to meet deliverables
- Provide strategic and technical expertise in translational research administration, project planning, and management
- Prepare and submit funding proposals and ensure continuation of programs, grants, and contracts
- Develop and manage the strategic plan for the Experimental Therapeutics component of the CCSG competitive application
- Establish working relationships with faculty, staff, researchers, community members, public health agencies, health systems, academic institutions, and cancer centers
- Assist with data collection and analysis for research projects
- Provide scheduling, spreadsheet, data management, and project management support for grant applications
- Collaborate with external partners to promote WVUCI and Experimental Therapeutics research initiatives
- Identify inter-programmatic collaboration opportunities
- Assist with scientific manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and presentations
- Set priorities and goals and assess fiscal and resource requirements
- Troubleshoot challenges and identify improvement methods
- Manage data systems and tools for complete and accurate program documentation
- Analyze program progress and implement strategies to improve outcomes and deliverables
- Represent WVUCI at state, regional, and national meetings and conferences
- Coordinate communication between leadership, departments, and programs
- Propose and implement operational efficiency and resource-management improvements
- Recruit, hire, train, and assess performance for Experimental Therapeutics staff and students
- Develop staff training and development programs
- Monitor team performance, provide feedback, conduct evaluations, and address development needs
- Delegate tasks and responsibilities to optimize workflow
- Develop and manage a strategic database of NCI-required documentation
- Develop metrics and performance indicators for the CCSG application
- Maintain accurate meeting documentation
- Facilitate multidisciplinary and cross-departmental collaboration
- Manage budgets, resources, and vendor relationships for events
Requirements
What you’ll need- Master's degree required
- Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in project management or health-related research management
- Experience managing complex, multi-year research projects, including planning, execution, and evaluation
- Proven ability to lead and manage a team, including setting goals, providing guidance, and evaluating performance
- Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered
- Knowledge of translational science research, priorities, and programs
- Knowledge of state, federal, and foundation grant opportunities and experience with research grant writing
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Knowledge of and experience using research software and databases such as REDCap, Qualtrics, EndNote
- Experience using statistical software such as SAS, SPSS, STATA, R
- Knowledge of Institutional Review Board (IRB) procedures and ability to develop and submit IRB protocols and packages
