About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support the development and growth of the WVUCI-wide Experimental Therapeutics Research Program
  • Support the Associate Director for Translational Science and Institute Director with research project management and administrative tasks
  • Supervise all Experimental Therapeutics staff and students
  • Organize and manage required research program meetings, retreats, and seminars
  • Oversee program management and research project implementation for specified grants, subcontracts, and other projects
  • Manage day-to-day programming
  • Develop and submit IRB protocols
  • Manage grant application processes, budgets, progress reports, and continuation reports
  • Recruit, maintain, train, and supervise a program team to meet deliverables
  • Build relationships and increase research collaborations with researchers, community members, public health agencies, health systems, academic institutions, and cancer centers
  • Prepare and submit new funding proposals and ensure continuation of existing programs, grants, and contracts
  • Develop and manage the strategic plan for the Experimental Therapeutics component of the CCSG competitive application
  • Assist research program members with data collection and analyses
  • Provide administrative support including scheduling, spreadsheet development and maintenance, data management, and project management
  • Collaborate with external partners to promote WVUCI and Experimental Therapeutics research initiatives
  • Identify opportunities for inter-programmatic collaboration and collaborations across basic, clinical, and population science research
  • Assist with scientific manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and presentations
  • Set priorities and goals; assess fiscal and resource requirements; troubleshoot challenges and identify improvements
  • Manage the design, implementation, and maintenance of data systems and tools
  • Analyze program progress and develop strategies to improve outcomes and deliverables
  • Represent WVUCI at state, regional, and national meetings and conferences
  • Provide strategic guidance, coordinate administrative functions, and ensure execution of management objectives
  • Streamline communication between leadership, departments, and programs
  • Improve operational efficiency and resource management
  • Recruit, hire, train, and assess performance for Experimental Therapeutics staff and students
  • Develop and implement staff training and development programs
  • Monitor team performance, provide feedback, conduct evaluations, and address development needs
  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities to optimize workflow
  • Develop and manage a strategic database of NCI-required documentation
  • Ensure data accuracy, integrity, consistency, and performance metrics for the CCSG application
  • Facilitate multidisciplinary and cross-departmental collaboration
  • Manage budgets, resources, and vendor relationships to deliver high-quality events within financial constraints

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Master's degree required
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in project management or health-related research management
  • Experience managing complex, multi-year research projects, including planning, execution, and evaluation
  • Proven ability to lead and manage a team, including setting goals, providing guidance, and evaluating performance
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered
  • CITI certification or ability to complete such certification within six months of hire date
  • Knowledge of translational science research, priorities, and programs
  • Knowledge of state, federal, and foundation grant opportunities and experience with research grant writing
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge of and experience using research software and databases such as REDCap, Qualtrics, and EndNote
  • Experience using statistical software such as SAS, SPSS, STATA, and R
  • Knowledge of Institutional Review Board (IRB) procedures and ability to develop and submit IRB protocols and packages
  • Skill in research data management
