About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead the Property Management unit and University in developing, monitoring, modifying, and controlling systems for financial data compliance
  • Coordinate, develop, and apply property-management systems, policies, and procedures
  • Design and code programs to extract data from Accounts Payable, Grants, Fixed Asset, and General Ledger modules
  • Research transactions and ensure asset transactions are properly posted and reconciled
  • Maintain knowledge of financial and human-resources system modules and their integration
  • Lead design and implementation of the core Fixed Asset accounting module, including setup tables, lookup values, and auto-accounting rules
  • Lead testing and implementation of new functionality and modifications in the Fixed Asset Module
  • Lead financial-system upgrade testing involving Fixed Asset Module tables and functionality
  • Troubleshoot and resolve module issues with Financial Systems functional analysts
  • Conduct annual assessments of Property Management policies, procedures, and systems for federal compliance
  • Manage and reconcile the University’s Fixed Asset System
  • Prepare, analyze, and record year-end Property Management entries
  • Analyze and report Property Management activity to sponsored award agencies, including the Office of Naval Research
  • Serve as liaison with external agencies, auditors, and consultants regarding property accounting and management
  • Coordinate campus-wide self-reported physical inventories
  • Develop methodologies for property accounting reports and special projects
  • Train University personnel and faculty on property management requirements
  • Report and advise senior management on Property Management concerns and discrepancies
  • Carry out special projects and provide backup for other unit positions
  • Participate in limited evening and weekend work as required

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or related field
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in financial operations of a complex organization
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered
  • High-level analytical and critical thinking abilities, organizational and time management skills, and problem-solving skills
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Financial Accounting Standards Board and Governmental Accounting Standards Board guidelines
  • Comprehensive knowledge of fund accounting procedures and regulations
  • Understanding of automated double-entry accounting systems
  • Ability to manipulate accounting systems to provide standard and analytical information
  • Ability to perform complex financial calculations, including financial ratios, statistical analyses, and trend analyses
  • Oral and written communication skills for explaining complex guidelines, justifying recommendations, and interacting with regulatory agencies and auditors
  • Ability to organize information, perform financial calculations, draw logical conclusions, and prepare financial reports, analyses, and summaries
  • Ability to interpret, apply, and implement federal, state, university, and professional guidelines
  • Proficiency with personal computers, word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications software
  • Ability to create sophisticated applications using software packages
  • Ability to use a high-level computer language and write reports/queries to extract accounting-system data
  • Ability to maintain institutional attendance and punctuality standards
  • Ability to foster cooperation and exercise professional judgment in new or unusual situations
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment
  • Preferred: Master’s degree
  • Preferred/desirable: advanced graduate degree in Accounting and/or Finance and/or CPA designation
  • Certified Public Accountant or Certified Research Administrator will be given preference
