About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Identify ways to build WVU’s visibility and enhance its reputation through innovative social media use
  • Manage daily posting, engagement, and account activity on Facebook, X, and Instagram for WVU Student Life
  • Support additional Student Life social media accounts, including Housing, Dining, Adventure WV, Campus Rec, WELLWVU, and SEL
  • Identify and promote content, stories, and resources from campus partners supporting current students
  • Plan topics and campaign timing to foster belonging, strengthen engagement, and support student retention and success
  • Maintain quality across managed social media platforms
  • Provide social-media customer service and respond quickly to potential student-experience issues
  • Integrate social media into Student Life communications and marketing plans
  • Build visibility, enhance reputation, and develop relationships with key audiences through active engagement
  • Coordinate relevant updates on student support, retention, and programming
  • Showcase and celebrate student successes
  • Design, create, and manage promotions and social advertising campaigns
  • Understand and apply the University’s mission, vision, values, goals, and brand
  • Create high-quality visual content through photography, video, editing, and collaboration with videographers, designers, and photographers
  • Design in-brand graphics for social platforms, including Instagram Stories
  • Execute social media goals developed by the Assistant Director of Marketing
  • Represent Strategic Communications & Marketing and Student Life in meetings, project teams, and presentations
  • Monitor marketing and social media trends and use competitive intelligence to guide innovation

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, public relations, journalism, or related field
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered
  • Demonstrated excellence of all popular social media platforms and trends
  • Ability to analyze trends and create strategic social media content plans
  • Demonstrated excellence in writing social media posts
  • Demonstrated experience interviewing, editing, videography, and photography
  • Ability to distill and clarify ideas under pressure
  • Familiarity with, and ability to become an expert on, the University’s social media guidelines and personality
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality digital customer service
  • Ability to deal appropriately with sensitive and sometimes confidential issues and work as a team in a crisis
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships
  • Skill in organizing tasks, documents, and materials with efficiency and accuracy
  • Ability to meet multiple deadlines and manage priorities and projects effectively
  • Ability to work outside the traditional workweek when needed
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment
