About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide technical support and leadership for planning, design, integration, and deployment of distributed energy resources across the distribution system
- Perform DER interconnection studies and power system analyses
- Support distribution planning and grid modernization initiatives
- Lead technical implementation of BESS, microgrid, and DER projects from development through operation
- Support DER integration with SCADA, DERMS, ADMS, controls, and communications
- Coordinate technical execution with Project Managers, Engineering, Operations, Planning, Regulatory, Cybersecurity, Telecommunications, Customer Solutions, and external stakeholders
- Develop technical documentation, including designs, testing, calculations, reports, and standards
- Provide technical support for Operations, Maintenance, Testing/diagnostics, and Regulatory activities
- Provide field engineering oversight for commissioning, testing, and inspections
- Coordinate or lead project phases including research, design, equipment selection, procurement support, installation, and commissioning
- Support bid and proposal evaluation through analysis and calculations
- Exchange technical information with internal business areas, customers, and vendors
- Coordinate interns, drafters, technicians, and others; mentor less experienced engineers
- Perform budgeting, estimating, forecasting, accounting, and work order management for engineering projects
- Maintain continuous self-development of technical skills and competencies
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from ABET accredited curriculum; electrical engineering degree preferred
- Minimum 2+ years relevant engineering experience at Staff level
- Minimum 5+ years relevant engineering experience with EIT/FE, or 7+ years without EIT/FE, at Senior level
- Minimum 9+ years relevant engineering experience with PE registration, or 15+ years without PE, at Principal level
- Ability to demonstrate the unique technical skills and core competencies established for the engineering level
- EIT/FE strongly preferred at Staff level
- EIT/FE required for Senior level when using the 5+ years experience pathway
- PE registration required for Principal level when using the 9+ years experience pathway
- Experience with DER interconnection, power systems, distribution planning, BESS, grid modernization, and SCADA/controls
- Experience supporting utility, renewable energy, energy storage, or microgrid projects
- Knowledge of DERMS, ADMS, EMS, SCADA, IEEE 1547, and utility interconnection practices
- PE license preferred at Staff/Senior levels
- Strong project leadership, cross-functional coordination, and stakeholder engagement skills
