About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Apply advanced technical expertise in a specialty area supporting operations and maintenance across the Xcel Energy fleet
  • Provide technical expertise, direction, and alternatives for control systems and major equipment problems
  • Troubleshoot system problems, assess equipment condition, and coordinate corrective maintenance
  • Manage major maintenance projects, including scoping, planning, scheduling, and supervision of craft employees
  • Supervise scheduled and unscheduled outage maintenance projects
  • Develop computerized scheduling techniques for modifications and new systems
  • Audit Quality Assurance procedures and develop standards and procedures to improve reliability
  • Communicate best practices between plants, regions, and subsidiaries
  • Coordinate and evaluate generation asset maintenance programs
  • Assist with or perform testing, generate reports, and interpret results
  • Direct and coordinate technical root cause analysis
  • Design system modifications and recommend improvements to operations and maintenance processes
  • Coordinate maintenance and capital projects with plant and engineering staff
  • Perform system testing, compile data, and submit results for management review
  • Provide documentation for projects
  • Justify multi-year budgets and outage work plans
  • Write specifications and purchase requisitions for fleet reliability services
  • Liaise with contractors, service providers, and the Company
  • Provide technical direction in lieu of an architect/engineer or OEM technical representative
  • Lead major operations and maintenance and capital projects
  • Extensive regional and fleet-wide travel, with possible international travel

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Production Specialist III: Minimum of nine (9) years of work experience in power generation, equivalent industrial manufacturing/power generation setting, or OEM operations/maintenance
  • Production Specialist II: Minimum of six (6) years of work experience in power generation, equivalent industrial manufacturing/power generation setting, or OEM operations/maintenance
  • Knowledge of standard engineering principles/practices/techniques and power generation operations/maintenance processes
  • Expertise in one or more of: process control, operational technology (OT), electrical, turbine-generators/rotating equipment, boilers/heat recovery steam generators, and/or non-destructive testing (NDE/NDT)
  • Ability to travel extensively and work non-typical schedules
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal or limited supervision
  • Some college coursework in engineering is desirable
  • OEM experience is helpful
  • Experience supervising craft employees is desired
  • Ability to adhere to cybersecurity policies, standards, and best practices
