About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide project management, leadership and coordination for one or more projects or project work streams
  • Manage overall project scope, schedule, cost and risk
  • Lead teams to achieve approved project scope
  • Develop strategic sequencing and detailed milestone schedules
  • Track and reconcile project-level costs
  • Coordinate detailed cost estimates, schedules, RFPs, RFQs and contracts
  • Lead projects through internal and external processes
  • Prepare project management reports, timelines, budgets and documentation
  • Independently manage project plan deliverables on smaller projects and contribute to larger projects
  • Track large project plans, identify gaps and develop closure plans
  • Ensure successful completion of assigned deliverables and milestones
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting and actuals tracking
  • Support RFP and contract management processes
  • Review budget deviations, research causes and recommend corrective action
  • Ensure timely project closure, payment and reconciliation
  • Manage internal and external resources, assigned contracts, payments and performance requirements
  • Develop comprehensive resource plans for matrixed teams
  • Define deliverables and required delivery dates
  • Facilitate stakeholder involvement in requirements gathering and planning
  • Develop solution designs covering project scope and secure approvals
  • Develop work plans/WBS, milestone schedules and project cost/benefit estimates
  • Manage scope change processes
  • Identify risks and issues and assist with mitigation strategies and contingency plans
  • Communicate project status to all organizational levels
  • Establish collaborative working relationships to maximize project efficiency, responsiveness and resource allocation

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Project Manager I: Minimum 5 years work experience in operations, technology, finance, or comparable function
  • Project Manager I: BS Engineering, Construction, Business, Information Technology or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Project Manager I: 3–5 years' experience in project management and process improvement
  • Project Manager II: Minimum 8 years work experience in operations, technology, finance, or comparable function
  • Project Manager II: BS Engineering, Construction, Business, Information Technology or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Project Manager II: 5–7 years' experience in project management and process improvement
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and influence others
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills
  • Excellent written/verbal communications skills required
  • Understanding of core business processes and industry trends, with ability to understand/apply or interpret/apply ongoing changes
  • Knowledge of project planning and business need justification process and methodology
  • Ability to adapt to change quickly and work within a diverse, cross-functional team environment
  • Preferred: Experience with previous business readiness efforts
  • Preferred: Previous experience with One Xcel Energy Way
  • Preferred: Previous electric utility industry experience
  • Preferred: Some formal project management training
  • Preferred: Vendor/contract management experience
  • Preferred for Project Manager II: Previous informal leadership experience and training skills
