About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Define security patterns and reference architectures for industrial control environments including SCADA, DCS, and PLC/HMI
Define and govern network segmentation using zones/conduits
Define secure remote access and monitoring strategies for OT networks and vendor/contractor connectivity
Develop security control baselines, hardening standards, and exception processes for OT assets and supporting infrastructure
Manage compliance drift
Partner with controls engineering, field technicians, plant operations, and maintenance teams to implement practical security improvements
Improve OT detection and response through logging/telemetry requirements, playbooks, and tabletop exercises
Create reusable products such as use cases and implementation patterns
Ensure adherence to NERC CIP and TSA Security Directive 2
Advise stakeholders on security methods and practices
Champion security best practices and standards across Xcel Energy’s footprint
Collaborate with security, technology, operations, engineering, and business teams
Protect reliability and safety while enabling business outcomes across IT and OT environments

Requirements

What you’ll need

Senior Security Architect: Minimum of 8 years’ experience in IT including 5 years’ direct experience in IT engineering and cyber security
Principal Security Architect: 5 years of experience in systems architecture or systems engineering
Principal Security Architect: 10 years of experience in Information Security
Principal Security Architect: 3 years of experience designing complex systems
Principal Security Architect: 3 years of experience with systems integration and engineering
Demonstrated verbal/written communication and presentation skills
Strong oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated experience collaborating with internal stakeholders/employees, third parties, and management
Ability to influence without direct authority
Experience with technology implementation projects for enterprise-scale organizations
Must be able to understand and respond to clients' business needs
Preferred: Information Security experience in the electric utility industry
Preferred: 5+ years of experience in security architecture, cybersecurity engineering, or control systems engineering, including work that interfaces with industrial/OT environments
Hands-on experience with OT/ICS technologies and environments such as SCADA, PLC/HMI, and DCS
Knowledge of network segmentation concepts and secure remote access patterns for OT/vendor connectivity
Experience with OT security frameworks and guidance such as IEC 62443 and NIST SP 800-82
Experience working with vendors/contractors supporting industrial equipment and control systems
Certifications such as GICSP, CISSP, CCSP, CCSK, or AWS Certified Security
Knowledge of NERC CIP, TSA, and 10 CFR 810
Ability to work under Xcel Energy’s hybrid work model and applicable role-specific onsite expectations
