About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assist a higher classification with gas and electric facilities using hand-operated tools, small-engine-driven and pneumatic equipment
  • Assist with assembly and placement of gas and electric distribution facilities
  • Handle and move materials and equipment in the field and shop
  • Obtain materials from the Stores Department and stock trucks and shop
  • Assist with inside and outside leak surveys and gas or electric patrols
  • Perform general housekeeping of vehicles, shop, job site, tools, and equipment
  • Complete other assignments as directed by a higher-level classification
  • Work alone to perform assigned functions

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must have passed the EEI Construction and Skilled Trades (CAST) selection test
  • Must have a valid Driver's License
  • Must have, or obtain within 120 days of start date, a valid CDL and pass a DOT physical
  • Physical abilities necessary for lifting, climbing, digging, working in tight areas, and working with specialized equipment and tools
  • Must be able to lift 80 pounds and work in all weather conditions
  • Must successfully pass Xcel Energy screening requirements, including a drug test and security clearance
  • Required federal-regulation exams, such as OSHA and DOT
  • Preferred: Class A CDL Permit
  • Must complete an online assessment within 72 hours if invited
  • Must complete the EEI Test if invited
