About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own daily operation of Xelon's cloud platform, including availability, incident response, monitoring, backup and recovery, and underlying infrastructure
  • Lead a team of four to six people across cloud operations and the service desk
  • Operate and optimise the production estate across a multi-hypervisor environment, with VMware as the primary platform
  • Manage availability, performance, capacity planning, hardware lifecycle and datacenter operations with partners
  • Own operational networking and storage, including segmentation, routing, firewalling, DNS, load balancing and the storage layer
  • Run and improve monitoring, alerting and logging
  • Own backup and disaster recovery and verify restores
  • Lead service desk intake, triage, ticket quality and response times against service levels
  • Act as escalation point for first- and second-level support incidents
  • Turn recurring tickets into fixes with the engineering team
  • Coach and develop the operations and service desk team, including development plans and sustainable on-call coverage
  • Move recurring manual operations into Infrastructure as Code and scripting
  • Improve the operational toolchain and handovers with DevOps, Support and Product
  • Maintain ISO 27001, ISAE and Swiss data sovereignty compliance, patch compliance, audit evidence and operational documentation
  • Co-own operational CAPEX and OPEX budgets and manage vendors, licenses and procurement

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 5+ years leading IT operations in a cloud, hosting or service provider environment
  • Hands-on production experience with VMware
  • Practical working knowledge of networking, storage and datacenter operations
  • Confident spoken and written German and English
  • Swiss or EU/EFTA citizenship, or a valid Swiss work permit
  • Networking at provider scale, including segmentation, routing, firewalling, load balancing and DNS
  • Experience with other hypervisors alongside VMware and with hypervisor migrations
  • Hands-on Infrastructure as Code, such as Terraform or Ansible
  • Monitoring and logging at scale, such as Prometheus, Grafana or a similar stack
  • Operating experience in a regulated environment, such as ISO 27001, ISAE or SOC 2
  • Experience running operations through a platform migration or consolidation
