About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Run the Networks team in Cloud Capabilities, responsible for Xero's cloud network, DNS and CDN
- Set the team's direction and deliver against Cloud Capabilities goals
- Grow and support engineers
- Balance roadmap work with support requests and incidents
- Work closely with Product, Security and other Cloud Capabilities teams
- Shape a multi-year network strategy across AWS and edge providers, including DNS and CDN
- Get to know the network architecture, risks and support load
- Build trust with the team and partners
- Agree a prioritised roadmap and ways of working with the Head of Engineering
- Reduce reliability and technical-debt risks
- Share support and incident work fairly across the team
- Report to the Head of Engineering, Cloud Capabilities
- Work in fortnightly sprints, participate in a support rotation and review incidents without blame
Requirements
What you’ll need- Experience guiding engineering teams that run production infrastructure
- Experience with hiring, performance conversations and career growth
- Solid grounding in cloud networking, including VPC, routing, DNS, CDN and load balancing
- Comfortable setting direction and delivering against roadmaps and OKRs
- Ability to handle planned and unplanned work concurrently
- Experience modernising critical infrastructure and weighing priorities and trade-offs
- Ability to build stakeholder trust and explain thinking clearly in writing
- Cloud certification such as AWS Advanced Networking Specialty or formal management training would be a bonus
