About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Shape the technical direction of Xero’s Front End Platform
- Work across multiple teams to deliver shared front end tools, systems and standards
- Build relationships across engineering, product and design
- Guide technical design and identify technical gaps holding teams back
- Champion modern front end practices
- Coach engineers toward their next level
- Build and maintain shared foundations including component libraries, design systems and developer tooling
- Guide React, TypeScript and associated tooling across multiple teams
- Influence CI/CD and delivery pipeline improvements at platform level
- Shape the roadmap for front end performance, accessibility and developer experience
- Use Harness Engineering to modernise legacy front end pages and components
- Collaborate with design, product engineering and infrastructure teams
Requirements
What you’ll need- Deep expertise in front end engineering
- Ability to pick up new languages and tools as needed
- Proven experience and genuine interest in large-scale shared platforms and developer experience
- Solid grounding in CI/CD concepts, automated testing and TDD
- Experience helping others build good engineering habits
- Skilled at designing secure, scalable and maintainable systems, including distributed architectures
- Track record of influencing roadmaps and technical direction across multiple teams
- Comfortable balancing strategic thinking with hands-on problem solving
- Experience coaching and mentoring engineers toward senior roles
- Collaborative approach to disagreement and different viewpoints
- Track record of using AI tools and principles to work more efficiently and solve problems within a development team
- Must have working rights for the country this role is based in, or require visa assistance as applicable
- Satisfactory completion of relevant background checks
