About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design and build modern React, Next.js and TypeScript experiences
- Connect Xero’s core ecosystem with its public web presence
- Set architecture for a multi-site platform combining React and Salesforce Experience Cloud surfaces
- Lead one of two engineering pods as the platform grows
- Make performance and accessibility default across customer experiences
- Explore AI and agentic solutions in customer experiences
- Partner with Product, Marketing and Support to deliver new ideas
- Work across two closely connected customer-platform engineering pods
- Participate in agile planning, retrospectives and demos
- Reimagine parts of Xero Central through a modern customer experience
- Run a hybrid React and Salesforce Experience Cloud estate
- Bring in new AI-powered features
- Shape target architecture for Xero’s customer experiences, including agentic AI proofs of concept
- Coach engineers and support development of React and AI skills
Requirements
What you’ll need- Deep experience with TypeScript, React and Next.js at architecture level
- Experience designing high-performance, content-rich multi-site platforms
- Experience migrating live, high-traffic sites without disruption
- Ability to plan careful, low-risk migration paths
- Working knowledge of Core Web Vitals and WCAG
- Experience coaching engineers and building skills in React and AI
- Ability to lead through influence and push back constructively
- Experience in e-commerce, media, agency or other high-traffic web environments
- Ability to work in New Zealand, specifically Wellington or Auckland
- Appropriate working rights for New Zealand or willingness/eligibility to obtain visa sponsorship
- Satisfactory completion of relevant background checks, potentially including credit and criminal history checks
