About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Build frictionless, developer-first platform tools for Xero’s engineering community
  • Remove barriers and empower engineers to ship high-impact software faster, safer, and at scale
  • Optimise developer workflows and scale AI-native development practices
  • Identify and solve high-impact technical problems across Xero’s engineering landscape
  • Collaborate with multiple engineering teams, product teams, infrastructure teams, and technical leadership
  • Accelerate pull request reviews and environment provisioning
  • Consolidate developer tooling to reduce context switching and cognitive load
  • Balance delivery speed with engineering excellence using Tech Health Scorecards and sustainable development practices
  • Influence tools, practices, and cultures across the engineering organisation
  • Mentor engineers and teams through influence and example

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Demonstrated expertise in DevEx, DevOps, or Platform Engineering
  • Proven track record of building products and platforms that engineers use
  • Platform-as-a-product mindset, with ability to understand engineer customers and design scalable solutions
  • Ability to navigate ambiguous, rapidly evolving environments with shifting roadmaps and fluid requirements
  • Communication skills to influence and collaborate with senior technical stakeholders and executives
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into compelling narratives
  • Exposure to or hands-on experience with AI-native development practices, spec-driven development, or modern AI development lifecycles
  • Ability to mentor and grow engineers and teams through influence and example
