Shape the technical foundation for money movement capabilities and unlock new product lines globally
Design and develop reliable, scalable, performant, and secure payment platform services
Contribute to operational excellence and direct business outcomes
Make foundational architectural decisions for an early-stage initiative
Write production code and develop proof-of-concepts
Design and build payment platform capabilities, including orchestration, risk and fraud prevention, and multi-provider integrations
Build a global bill payment product for small businesses
Develop core high-throughput platform services using modern backend stacks and AWS
Integrate and leverage artificial intelligence capabilities to accelerate development workflows and engineering productivity
Collaborate with product, security, risk, and operations teams
Translate complex business needs into resilient engineering solutions supporting millions of subscribers
Mentor fellow team members and foster an inclusive culture
Drive agile execution to deliver results

Requirements

What you’ll need

Proven track record of delivering highly available, distributed backend systems and high-throughput services under real-world constraints
Deep understanding of system architecture and API design
Experience with both SQL and NoSQL databases
Proficiency in modern backend stacks such as C#, Java, Golang, or C++
Experience with cloud-native platforms like AWS
Hands-on contribution to production code, proof-of-concepts, and technical deep dives
Ability to mentor team members and share technical knowledge
Ability to break down complex problems into clear, actionable solutions
Ability to drive agile execution and deliver results
Must reside or plan to reside within three months in one of Xero's listed payroll states
Appropriate working rights for the country this role is based in
