About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Build tools, platforms and best practices that help Xero engineers work with AI
- Own solutions end to end from experimentation through production
- Create runbooks, monitoring and rollback plans to ensure reliability
- Shape the technical direction of an internal skills marketplace and AI distribution platform
- Build an internal skills marketplace and distribution platform for AI tools
- Develop guidance and best practices for authoring agent skills, including remediation agents
- Collaborate with AWS, Microsoft and GitHub on early-access technology
- Guide and challenge a team early in its AI journey
- Work with engineering teams across Xero to improve productivity through AI platforms, tooling and practical guidance
Requirements
What you’ll need- Hands-on software engineering experience
- Experience ideally with C#, .NET and AWS
- Ability to learn new technology stacks quickly
- Experience building internal tools or platforms relied upon by other engineers
- Production discipline, including writing runbooks, setting up monitoring and planning rollback
- Clear communication skills
- Curiosity about coding agents and AI-native tools
- Ability to challenge decisions directly and respectfully
- Structured, quality-focused approach to learning
- Candidates can be based anywhere in Australia or in New Zealand
- Appropriate working rights for the country where the role is based
