About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Take responsibility for the analysis, definition, and continued development of Zayo’s end-to-end Layer 2 and Layer 3 architecture
  • Work with team members and groups to develop scalable network designs, solutions, and policy recommendations
  • Analyze and drive key platform decisions and directions; provide guidance to network planning and operations groups
  • Support internal product groups by identifying and presenting network-impacting requirements to service activation and network operations teams
  • Support and lead development of Zayo’s growing network infrastructure through published architecture design documents
  • Provide technical guidance for NCC support teams
  • Conduct extensive lab testing of new architectures, platforms, and inter-networking software
  • Promote Zayo’s Enterprise Networks product development
  • Participate in discussions at standards development organizations such as NANOG, MEF, IETF, and other conferences
  • Design, implement, and document new technologies; provide top-tier troubleshooting and customer support
  • Guide network architecture, Ethernet and IP product design standards and enhancements, production network issues and escalations, and vendor relationships

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Deep and substantial operational knowledge and experience with carrier-class routers, switches, and packet-optical platforms, such as Juniper, Cisco, Nokia-ALU, Infinera, and Ciena/Cyan
  • Ability to represent Zayo at Standards Development Organizations such as MEF, IEEE, ITU, IETF, ISO, etc.
  • Excellent knowledge of Ethernet, QOS, MPLS/RSVP-TE, L2Circuit/VLL, VPLS-BGP/LDP, L3VPN, G.8032v2, E-OAM, Y.1731, IS-IS, OSPF, MP-BGP, and SNMP protocols
  • Skills in building Layer 2 and Layer 3 networks in metro and long-haul applications
  • Experience modeling financial impacts of decisions
  • Strong vendor negotiation skills
  • Skills in Perl/Python scripting, automation, NETCONF/YANG, and EMS/NMS
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to influence others with engineering solutions
  • Bachelor's Degree from a four-year college or university or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of six (6) years of experience in engineering, architecture, or design of an ISP network
  • Must have worked in “zero downtime” environments previously
