About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Install new equipment with attention to detail and provide professional hand-off to customers
  • Independently troubleshoot and diagnose assigned equipment so repairs can be completed within a single visit
  • Confirm all SVOs within 24 hours after completing work, following spare-parts and time-allocation procedures
  • Provide accurate billable quotations within 24 hours when requested
  • Complete contract-customer preventive maintenance within 90 days of SVO assignment using proper checklists and documentation
  • Escalate unresolved issues through appropriate processes for rapid resolution and customer satisfaction
  • Educate customers on upgrades and accessories and pass leads through proper channels
  • Connect available systems to the ZEISS Predictive Service network
  • Conduct environmental analysis tests at special sites or systems as assigned
  • Train customers on basic system operation and maintenance
  • Maintain ZEISS tools and assets
  • Return spare parts within one week and accurately manage the Stock on Memo account
  • Complete technical training and maintain thorough knowledge of assigned equipment
  • Engage in personal development through the ZEISS CurioZ training portal and independent study
  • Maintain personal safety when visiting laboratories and institutions
  • Uphold ZEISS values with internal and external customers
  • Support Level 1 FSEs as proficiency increases
  • Perform other duties assigned by the manager

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 4-year degree or technical certificate in technical/scientific discipline, related military electronics experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience such as 3+ years direct experience building, maintaining, installing, and/or repairing similarly complex automated electromechanical systems
  • Minimum 3 years of professional work experience
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of Laboratory Safety requirements for BSL 1, 2, and 3 environments and specimen handling of Level 3 and below pathogenic biohazards
  • Ability to troubleshoot software, electronics, optics and electron optics, high voltage, high vacuum, mechanical, and electro-mechanical systems
  • Knowledge of Windows operating environments and word processing and/or email applications
  • Ability to read and understand electrical or mechanical engineering documentation and schematics
  • Valid U.S. driver license and driving record in good standing
  • Ability to drive a company-provided car/van
  • Capable and willing to engage customers in BSL-2 and BSL-3 facilities; may be asked to engage in BSL-4 environments
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and overseas
  • Ability to lift heavy equipment crates weighing approximately 75 lbs
  • Frequent overnight travel, domestic and international, averaging 50%–70%
  • Able to obtain a corporate credit card
  • Successful completion of assigned technical training and required pre-reading, coursework, and examinations
  • Good communication skills and ability to converse readily in English, verbally and in writing
  • German is a plus, not required
