About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own the interpretation of regulations behind Right to Work, FCA, CQC, Ofsted, BS7858, BPSS and public sector vetting checks
- Work with Product on applying regulatory requirements to the product
- Collaborate with the DBS Compliance Lead and wider Risk department
- Advise on sector vetting, including fitness and propriety, SM&CR, KCSIE, EYFS and other regulator requirements
- Lead on international frameworks covering global criminal record and right to work checks, GDPR in screening, US FCRA and state law
- Answer complex questions from sales, account management and customer success
- Join customer and prospect calls where regulatory depth is needed
- Provide regulatory input to tenders and RFPs
- Review new product features, checks and user flows from a regulatory perspective
- Translate legislation and guidance into clear product requirements
- Track regulatory developments across the UK, EU, US and APAC and turn them into practical guidance
- Scope, brief and quality-check fractional regulatory experts and external counsel with the Head of Regulatory Compliance
- Start as an individual contributor with room to grow as regulated-sector and international coverage expands
Requirements
What you’ll need- A regulatory or compliance background, having interpreted regulation in legal practice, in-house, at a regulator or in a compliance function
- Experience across more than one sector is a strong plus
- Ability to provide defensible views in plain English and know when to escalate or decide
- Ability to quickly learn regulatory frameworks in unfamiliar sectors
- Comfortable reading legislation, statutory guidance and regulator publications
- Comfortable on customer and prospect calls
- Pragmatic approach to risk and compliance
- Ability to collaborate with Product, Legal and commercial teams
- Legal background is helpful but a qualified lawyer is not required
- Bonus experience in background screening, HR tech or recruitment; DBS, right to work, FCA regulation or UK GDPR in an employment context; or managing external advisers
