About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead collection strategies and processes to minimize financial loss and reduce delinquency
  • Analyze account and payment trends and identify improvement opportunities
  • Perform planning analysis on strategic goals, financial results, and business cases for new products, projects, and proposals
  • Analyze collection center measurements, budgets, dollars collected, calls, write-offs, service measurements, and staffing needs
  • Recommend strategies to increase billed-revenue collection and minimize bad debt and credits
  • Represent collection centers in efficiency and net-bad-debt reduction programs, including consolidations and conversions
  • Develop process measurement tools and identify efficiency improvements
  • Establish collection center teams and manage activity status and rollouts
  • Develop training programs based on data and partner with Training on opportunities
  • Coach and lead collection teams
  • Assemble teams to drive performance and motivation, recognize employees, track status, and implement changes
  • Collaborate with Collection teams, Contact Centers, Field Operations, Information Systems, Revenue Operations, Sales, Regulatory, PSC, and outside vendors
  • Review IT projects for collection center sponsorship and input
  • Manage office floor plans, equipment requirements, and use of space
  • Serve as point of contact for special collection-center projects
  • Participate in meetings, communicate ideas and results, prepare presentations, and deliver department-wide communications
  • Manage the end-to-end Carrier Access Billing Systems (CABS) collections process for Switched Access, Special Access, and unbundled network elements (UNEs)
  • Investigate and resolve billing disputes involving Meet-Point Billing agreements, disputed Access Service Requests, circuit disconnect timing, and operational lease variances
  • Partner with CABS billing auditors and provisioning teams to reconcile system usage, circuit inventories, tariffs, and Interconnection Agreements
  • Perform other duties as required to support the business and evolving organization

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting, operations, or a related field preferred
  • Equivalent relevant work experience may be considered in place of a degree
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in collections, credit, billing, accounts receivable, or revenue operations
  • 2–3 years of experience leading employees, including coaching, performance management, training, and achievement of operational goals
  • Working knowledge of applicable state and federal laws and regulations governing collection activities and practices
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting principles and credit and collections practices
  • Working knowledge of company policies, tariffs, contracts, and interconnection agreements applicable to billing, credit, collections, and dispute resolution
  • Experience managing a union-represented workforce
  • Experience managing third-party collection agencies, service providers, or other external vendors
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Ability to build collaborative teams, establish clear performance expectations, and lead employees toward individual and operational goals
  • Demonstrated ability to engage, motivate, and develop employees while promoting accountability and high performance across a large work group
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including documenting business processes and communicating with technical and nontechnical audiences
  • Preferred collections or billing experience within telecommunications, broadband, utilities, or another regulated industry
  • Ability to interpret financial and operational data, identify trends and risks, and translate findings into actionable recommendations
  • Ability to establish performance measures, monitor results, and implement corrective actions that improve collections and reduce bad debt
  • Strong leadership, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to resolve complex billing and account disputes
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines
  • Ability to collaborate across departments and communicate complex information to technical and nontechnical audiences
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, documentation, and follow-through
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and provide a positive customer experience while protecting the company's financial interests
