About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead, coach, and develop QA professionals conducting pre-close and post-close loan reviews
- Establish expectations, conduct one-on-ones, and provide constructive feedback
- Manage performance concerns, expectations, and improvement plans
- Assess training needs and coordinate training, calibration, mentoring, and development
- Support engagement, retention, succession planning, and readiness for expanded responsibilities
- Oversee quality assurance reviews across the full loan origination process
- Ensure reviews are accurate, consistently scored, timely, evidence-supported, and within service levels
- Monitor removal rates, investor findings, repeat findings, and program-level measures
- Conduct calibration and targeted review-validation sessions
- Identify policy, procedural, compliance, regulatory, documentation, and investor risks
- Escalate systemic or emerging risks and track corrective actions
- Manage queues, assignments, priorities, reassignments, and team capacity
- Monitor volume, aging, turnaround times, workload distribution, bottlenecks, and service-level risk
- Develop efficient workflows across QA systems and tools
- Maintain audit-ready records of reviews, findings, disputes, decisions, and remediation
- Lead weekly cross-functional meetings on findings, trends, recurring issues, and remediation
- Serve as escalation point for disputed findings, reassignments, and QA questions
- Evaluate disputes and facilitate timely, well-supported decisions
- Collaborate with Origination, Underwriting, Operations, Compliance, Credit Risk, Technology, and other stakeholders
- Translate QA data into actionable insights for managers and senior leadership
- Interpret policies, procedures, system requirements, regulations, and investor guidelines
- Research multiple platforms and data sources to validate evidence and resolve inconsistencies
- Keep current on policy, product, system, regulatory, and investor changes and translate them into QA practices and training
- Analyze trends and root causes to identify risks, inefficiencies, training gaps, automation opportunities, and control improvements
- Implement improvements that reduce repeat findings, strengthen outcomes, and increase throughput
- Define success measures and evaluate improvement results
- Contribute to QA planning, departmental goals, and broader Risk initiatives
- Lead the team through changes in policy, process, systems, priorities, and volume
Requirements
What you’ll need- 7+ years of progressive experience in mortgage, consumer lending, manufactured housing lending, loan operations, underwriting, quality assurance, quality control, compliance, or comparable financial services
- 3+ years of direct people-management experience, including coaching, performance management, training, workload planning, and employee development
- Expertise in the end-to-end loan origination lifecycle
- Ability to evaluate complete loan files
- Experience overseeing pre-close and post-close quality reviews strongly preferred
- Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and investor requirements to complex or ambiguous scenarios
- Strong investigative and research skills
- Ability to navigate multiple systems, reconcile conflicting information, and document supportable conclusions
- Ability to manage disputes and escalations objectively
- Strong analytical skills and experience using findings, operational metrics, and trend data to identify root causes and drive measurable improvement
- Excellent written and verbal communication, facilitation, organization, and judgment
- Ability to operate proactively and independently in a fast-paced, highly ambiguous environment
- Manufactured housing or specialty finance experience preferred
- Must reside in Arizona, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, or Wisconsin
