About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Evolve Xero’s accounting platform by decoupling key accounting capabilities from its mature monolithic architecture
Own significant initiatives end-to-end, from technical design through production
Design and evolve reliable, scalable services for invoices, payments, bank transactions and reconciliation
Protect accounting-data integrity while improving scalability and maintainability
Build shared accounting foundations and outputs used by other Xero product teams
Make incremental architectural improvements while continuing to deliver value for small businesses and their advisors

Requirements

What you’ll need

Proven track record delivering highly available, distributed systems and high-throughput services on cloud-native platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP
Demonstrated end-to-end ownership of significant work from design through rollout and production validation
Strong architectural and trade-off decision-making, including API design and data-store selection
Proficiency in a modern backend stack such as Java, Kotlin, Go, Python, Ruby or C++
Keen to learn C# and .NET; existing experience is a bonus
Hands-on production coding and technical deep dives
Experience using AI tools with good judgement
Commitment to mentoring peers, sharing technical knowledge, code reviews, pairing and documentation
Successful completion of relevant background checks, which may include credit and criminal history checks
