Key responsibilities & impact- Program new robots and automation equipment
- Modify existing software for industrial robots and custom automation equipment
- Troubleshoot and debug existing products
- Work with project teams to develop automation systems according to customer specifications
- Incorporate hardware into mechanical designs and collaborate with project teams
- Adapt electrical schematics to fulfill software requirements
- Research and implement new technologies for ENGEL automation systems
- Generate vendor specifications according to project requirements
- Create and modify electrical schematics using Promis, E-Plan, or AutoCAD
- Ensure systems meet safety standards and US and international regulations
- Establish documentation for automation and robotic systems
- Develop cable-management layouts for mechanical designs
- Create final documentation packages for customers and technicians
- Generate base software from electrical schematics
- Create and modify software for articulated and linear industrial robots and peripheral equipment
- Design HMI and visualization for production cells
- Program communication protocols including EtherCAT, Ethernet, I/O Link, OPC UA, Profibus, and DeviceNet
- Troubleshoot software at production facilities and customer sites
- Support cross-functional teams on new and existing automation projects
- Write operator instructions, manuals, and other custom-software documentation
- Develop new features and modules for non-ENGEL standard equipment
- Implement new standards, interfaces, and protocols
- Provide technical support to project engineering, assembly manufacturing, service technicians, and customers
- Perform other duties or special projects assigned by a supervisor
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in software engineering is required or equivalent industry experience
- Minimum of 7+ years related experience, preferably in robotics and/or automation
- Full understanding of electrical schematics and other technical drawings
- Preferred knowledge of pneumatic and mechanical drawings
- Capable of ladder logic, function block, and structured text programming
- Preferred experience with Siemens S7, Beckhoff, Allen Bradley Studio 5000, KUKA robotics, and FANUC robotics
- Proficient in Microsoft programs, various software editors, ENGEL-specific programs, C++, Java, machine simulations, and SAP
- Good communication skills
- Valid passport required
- Ability to travel 5–15%, including travel to other countries
- Ability to sit, operate a computer, and keyboard continuously for more than two hours at a time
- Ability to hear and listen for one to two hours at a time on a regular basis
