About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design, develop, modify, test, and support software for tobacco industry machines, including PLC and IPC software applications
- Create and update parts lists, bills of material (BOMs), functional descriptions, and engineering documentation
- Create, maintain, and properly file software change logs, log files, revision documentation, and technical references
- Research obsolete components, evaluate replacement options, and provide alternative software or design recommendations
- Perform SAP-related engineering functions, including entering and maintaining BOMs and parts lists and uploading electronic drawings and documentation
- Troubleshoot software, controls, and machine functionality issues
- Support root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Manage multiple projects while meeting quality, timeline, and documentation expectations
- Coordinate with electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, service, and other engineering disciplines
- Lead or provide technical direction to a small team when required
- Identify reliable technical information sources and support continuous improvement of engineering processes
- Apply electrical codes, machine safety practices, and engineering standards used in equipment design and manufacturing
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with company safety requirements
- Develop technical skills and knowledge supporting future technologies, software platforms, automation tools, and machinery improvements
- Perform other engineering duties as assigned
- Travel internationally as needed for projects, installations, troubleshooting, commissioning, training, and customer requirements
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Associate degree in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Automation Technology, Computer Science, or a related technical field preferred
- Equivalent education and relevant experience may be considered
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in an engineering or industrial automation environment
- Five (5) years of experience as a Software Technician or in a comparable technical software/controls role
- Strong knowledge of PLC and IPC programming, troubleshooting, testing, and documentation
- Ability to read, interpret, and work from electrical drawings, machine documentation, functional descriptions, and technical specifications
- Working knowledge of BOM structures, parts lists, revision control, and engineering change documentation
- Ability to research technical issues, evaluate options, and recommend practical solutions for machinery and controls-related concerns
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to use SAP or similar enterprise systems for engineering documentation
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and projects effectively
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision
- Ability to provide technical guidance and support team collaboration
- Commitment to safety, quality, continuous improvement, and ongoing technical development
- SAP experience preferred
- Thorough knowledge of and hands-on experience with PLC and IPC programming
