About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Oversee the day-to-day operations and strategic direction of the Purchasing team
- Develop a holistic approach to maintaining reliable component supply
- Translate customer demand into analytical BOM review to achieve uninterrupted production output
- Develop a systemic approach to strengthen supply chain resilience and proactively manage strategic risks
- Lead, coordinate, implement and optimize value stream replenishment systems aligned with customer demand
- Work with the Strategic Supply Chain Manager to establish, monitor and report on Business Unit supply chain objectives and operational performance metrics
- Monitor and analyze purchasing and supply chain performance metrics
- Review product families and provide weekly updates to the BU Leader and Strategic Supply Chain Manager
- Assess and report supply chain readiness for new product introductions and coordinate transfers from R&D into Production
- Provide senior management with data-driven insights
- Design, implement and improve value-stream replenishment systems
- Contribute to purchasing strategies
- Work with Planning to understand customer demand rates and forecast requirements
- Lead quarterly performance reviews for assigned product families and drive improvement in supplier delivery, quality and OTIF metrics
- Calculate, validate and audit Kanban and replenishment trigger quantities
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives across the supply process
- Manage supplier relationships and supply risks
- Support supplier audits with Supplier Quality Engineers
- Develop lean manufacturing best practices with Supplier Quality Engineers
- Lead supplier commercial negotiations, selection and onboarding
- Manage supplier performance scorecards and improvement actions
- Establish and maintain blanket order coverage with key suppliers
- Review and authorize component invoices and resolve discrepancies
- Support stock investigations and reconciliation activities
- Maintain supplier and purchasing data in D365
Requirements
What you’ll need- Degree qualified (or equivalent) in relevant field
- Previous Purchasing or other Supply Chain related experience required
- Project Management experience required
- Experience within a manufacturing environment preferred
- Ability to train, mentor and present new ideas
- Ability to understand customer demand at top-SKU level and translate it into component-level purchasing requirements through BOM analysis
- Ability to negotiate effectively to achieve and maintain target margin
- Ability to manage vendor accounts, monitor vendor KPIs and work with vendors to achieve and maintain KPI targets
- Ability to calculate kanban quantities and replenishment triggers, and monitor material flow
- Strong analytical skills and ability to draw actionable insights from data
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Positive approach to continuous improvement activities
- Must be over 18 years old
- Eligibility and valid permission to work in the UK
