About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own the employee lifecycle and people data, including onboarding, probation, role/salary/working-time changes, leaves, performance and development reviews, and offboarding
- Support market entry into new countries by advising on hiring models, employment law, costs and timelines
- Develop and maintain HR policies, the employee handbook and practical instructions for remote and cross-border work, travel, working time and leave
- Ensure people processes meet employment law, GDPR and other requirements in each country
- Run salary administration and salary reviews, provide salary benchmarking, and contribute to job architecture and job design
- Manage employee wellbeing, occupational health and safety, and statutory and voluntary insurances
- Support managers and employees on day-to-day and sensitive people matters
- Draft, issue and maintain employment contracts, amendments and terminations across Finland, Romania and new European countries
- Select and manage Employer of Record providers
- Coordinate relocation, work and residence permits, A1 certificates and social security coverage
- Run monthly payroll, pensions and statutory contributions with external providers and Finance
- Improve HRIS and report on headcount, people costs and attrition
Requirements
What you’ll need- Several years of experience in an HR Manager or equivalent role, including hands-on HR operations, employment contracts and payroll in Finland
- Experience employing people in several European countries, through own entities and/or Employer of Record providers
- Strong knowledge of Finnish employment law, statutory insurances and occupational health care
- Working understanding of the wider European employment legal landscape
- Proven ability to work across countries and regions, handling different legal frameworks, cultures and time zones
- High work rate and scale-up readiness
- Ability to build structure, policies and processes in a fast-growing company
- Use of AI tools in daily work and interest in automating and simplifying HR processes
- Excellent communication in English
- Sound judgement with confidential matters
- Nice to have: Experience with Romanian employment practices, or with HR in Central and Eastern or Southern Europe
- Nice to have: Experience in a startup or scale-up, ideally in technology or energy
- Nice to have: Familiarity with HRIS and payroll tools, and with equity or option programme administration
