About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead engineering on a multi-year programme modernizing and migrating middle-office applications to AWS
  • Lead the modernization engineering team rebuilding critical applications as cloud-native AWS services
  • Set engineering standards for microservices, event-driven integration, containerization, and Oracle data design
  • Own technical delivery plans, estimates, and release quality
  • Collaborate with Architecture, Platform, Data, QE, and application support teams
  • Lead cutover, parallel runs, and handover to run teams
  • Design and operate an agentic software development lifecycle using AI for reverse engineering, specification generation, code conversion, test generation, and documentation
  • Select and orchestrate AI tools and agent frameworks
  • Build reusable agent workflows, prompt libraries, knowledge graphs, vector databases, and MCP integrations
  • Track and report AI productivity and quality metrics to leadership
  • Implement human review checkpoints, audit trails, and secure-coding gates for AI-generated code
  • Ensure AI-extracted business rules are validated by subject-matter experts and reconciliation before go-live
  • Manage data classification and approved-tool usage for client and confidential data
  • Hire, coach, and develop a permanent cloud-native engineering team
  • Build AI fluency across the team and wider organization
  • Manage vendor and temporary capacity and transfer knowledge to permanent staff

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 12+ years in software engineering
  • 5+ years leading large engineering teams on complex modernization or cloud migration programmes
  • Strong hands-on experience with Java/Spring Boot, microservices, REST, Kafka/IBM MQ, and AWS (ECS/EKS, IAM, networking)
  • Practical experience using AI coding assistants and agents in delivery, with measurable results
  • Experience migrating legacy stacks such as COBOL, C/C++, PowerBuilder, and Sybase to modern platforms
  • Experience with database migration to Oracle
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD and DevSecOps, including Harness or similar
  • Experience with secrets management using Vault/CyberArk
  • Experience with observability
  • Experience delivering in a regulated financial services environment with strong change and control requirements
  • Knowledge of investment servicing or middle-office areas preferred
  • Experience building MCP servers, knowledge graphs, or retrieval-augmented context for engineering agents preferred
  • AWS Professional-level or equivalent certification preferred
