Key responsibilities & impact- Build and optimize resilient data ingestion pipelines processing high-volume clinical data
- Integrate ingestion pipelines into the core oncology platform architecture
- Own indexing, querying, and performance tuning of the OpenSearch cluster
- Implement and refine OCR processing workflows to structure unstructured patient timelines
- Expand the oncology data model through microservices and automated medically defined quality checks
- Use AI tools to automate routine setup and boilerplate
- Design and implement ETL pipelines and high-performance RESTful APIs and microservices
- Participate in code and design reviews
- Guide technical decisions for system components
- Mentor peer engineers
- Investigate and resolve data and quality issues
- Report directly to the Senior Director of Engineering and work cross-functionally across Core Engineering and Data Ingestion teams
Requirements
What you’ll need- 6+ years of professional experience building scalable, robust APIs, microservices, and high-volume ETL/ingestion processes
- Strong professional experience with functional programming languages, primarily Scala and Elixir, and/or mainstream typed languages such as Java, C#, or C++
- Experience with OpenSearch or Elasticsearch for complex indexing
- Exposure to OCR pipelines, document parsing, or natural language text processing
- 4+ years of experience with data modeling for structured/unstructured datasets
- Strong SQL coding and query optimization skills
- Experience with transactional OLTP systems such as Postgres or MySQL
- Experience with analytical OLAP systems such as Databricks, Snowflake, or BigQuery
- Comfort using coding assistants, automated scripts, or agentic tools
- Deep understanding of distributed server-side architectures and reactive principles
- Experience with AWS and/or GCP cloud integrations
- Experience with messaging/streaming infrastructure such as Amazon SQS, Kafka, or Google PubSub
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally across engineering and product teams
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
- Must live within 50 miles of the San Francisco or New York City office
- In-person interviews required at either the San Francisco or New York City office
