Key responsibilities & impact- Design, implement, and maintain moderately complex databases
- Ensure efficient database configurations and maintain current database dictionaries
- Integrate systems through reliable database designs
- Administer and test computer databases, especially PostgreSQL environments
- Perform database testing for functionality and efficiency
- Plan, coordinate, and implement database security measures
- Set up, configure, patch, tune performance, and plan capacity for PostgreSQL environments
- Implement and validate backup and recovery procedures using pg_dump/pg_restore and WAL archiving
- Configure, monitor, and manage PostgreSQL replication and high availability
- Optimize queries and indexing using EXPLAIN/ANALYZE, partitioning, and pg_stat_statements
- Plan and execute migrations involving PostgreSQL, AWS RDS, Aurora PostgreSQL, and Oracle databases
- Integrate PostgreSQL with existing IT infrastructures
- Develop, configure, and deploy monitoring and alerting systems using Prometheus, Grafana, or similar tools
- Monitor and troubleshoot database performance metrics and address bottlenecks
- Report to the Program Manager
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- At least 8 years of professional experience in database administration and management
- Proven expertise working with PostgreSQL version 13 or higher in medium to large-scale deployments
- Strong technical knowledge of database management systems and hands-on experience in database design, administration, and optimization
- Ability to implement scalable, efficient, and secure enterprise database solutions
- Deep understanding of PostgreSQL backup/recovery processes and high-availability configurations
- Experience with database migration projects to and from PostgreSQL
- Exposure to AWS RDS and Aurora PostgreSQL
- Proficiency in query optimization, indexing, and performance tuning
- Experience setting up observability and monitoring tools such as Prometheus and Grafana
- Active Top Secret Security Clearance
- Must be able to pass a background check
- Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- High-level attention to detail
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, adapt to changing priorities, and learn quickly
- Ability to work independently and on a multifunctional team
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
