About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Operate as the company’s engineering subject matter expert for firing processes
- Provide engineering leadership for firing-process expertise globally
- Understand firing systems, including equipment installation and commissioning, materials of construction, equipment suppliers, services, controls, troubleshooting, and safety concerns
- Receive and transfer new developments and firing processes from R&D to manufacturing
- Produce yield improvements and increase efficiency of existing capital equipment
- Solve complex issues involving firing processes and associated equipment
- Interface with firing-equipment manufacturers from specification setting through implementation into manufacturing
- Provide technical guidance as an internal consultant on projects
- Improve or develop manufacturing processes to meet customer requirements
- Execute technology transfers to meet production requirements
- Manage projects and train and guide plant engineering and manufacturing team members
- Collaborate with manufacturing leadership, maintenance/repair services, and cross-functional engineering teams
- Execute environmental sustainability initiatives, ensure regulatory compliance, and implement cleaner manufacturing solutions
- Create business plans supporting global process engineering initiatives and projects
- Stay connected to the firing industry through publications and conferences and transfer knowledge of trends and methodologies
- Perform detailed analysis for executive review and communicate effectively up and down
- Maintain high safety requirements meeting local consensus safety standards
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Ceramic Engineering or related engineering discipline
- Minimum of 5 years of Engineering experience (preferably process engineering) and thermal processing of materials
- Experience in high temperature firing of ceramics
- Experience performing mass and heat balance calculations
- Knowledge of refractory materials and refractory insulation systems
- Knowledge of ceramic material properties, and methods of material analysis
- Experience commissioning equipment for large capital projects
- Diverse technical background experience required, including knowledge of mechanical, electrical and materials engineering
- Skilled in implementing/applying Lean, TOC, Six Sigma or other TQM process improvement methodologies in a manufacturing environment
- Experience in an automated engineering environment
- Software knowledge: MS Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor and MasterCAM
- Ability to travel regularly 20-35% and at times up to 50% (domestic and international)
- Must be able to work with a diverse variety of people from different cultures and backgrounds
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification a plus
- Project Management certification a plus
- Experience with Vacuum furnaces a plus
- Experience in air pollution control and mitigation systems a plus
