About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Investigate, evaluate, estimate and process property claims primarily by phone or other internal communication channels
- Handle personal and commercial losses including structure, contents, additional living expenses, scheduled property and business income losses
- Handle contents claims and coverage questions
- Provide customizable claims service to insureds by assigning preferred contractors and/or independent adjusters for field work
- Review assigned independent adjusters’ and preferred contractors’ work for quality and timely service
- Assist resolution specialists with contents valuation and depreciation holdback tasks
- Follow policies and procedures for contact and communication, coverage verification, liability determination, loss investigation, claim valuation, forms, reports, negotiation and settlement
- Investigate and close a minimum average of 70 elements per month, or 85 for primarily contents claims
- Assist in catastrophe claims handling throughout the company operating territory, including overnight travel or extended stays upon request
- Serve on claims and other integrated company teams as assigned
- Maintain communication with agents, sales representatives, marketing and underwriting associates
- Report to a Manager, Property Claims
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Must reside and work within one of the approved U.S. states: Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia, or Wisconsin
- Experience as an Encova Insurance inside property specialist or equivalent in the industry
- A college degree or equivalent in insurance or business is required
- Obtain and maintain all applicable adjusters licensing
- Must pass the claims adjuster license exam(s) for applicable states within 6 months of being hired
- Thorough knowledge of claims settlement techniques, Encova’s personal and commercial policy products, current legal decisions affecting claims handling, company procedures, policies and practices
- Good judgment in making decisions
- Good communication skills and excellent people skills
- Good negotiation skills
- Satisfactory setup and monitoring of all claims
- Continuing insurance education is desired and may be obtained through IIA and/or CPCU or other accredited insurance education provider
