Key responsibilities & impact- Develop and maintain internal backend frameworks and libraries for API routing, service lifecycle management, caching, messaging primitives, and error handling
- Create and improve APIs, service templates, and versioned interfaces for consistent service and feature development
- Introduce and champion asynchronous I/O and streaming data processing for improved performance and scalability
- Design Harvey-specific abstractions and domain-specific frameworks for authorization, streaming, data governance, and event processing
- Build tracing, metrics, and automated tests to embed reliability and observability into the platform
- Collaborate with the Model Infrastructure team on high-throughput model inference, streaming and long-running API interactions, retrieval, context handling, and prompt lifecycle
- Collaborate with Developer Experience and Infrastructure teams to integrate platform components with CI/CD, build, release, deployment, and monitoring systems
- Work with product engineering teams to gather feedback, promote best practices, and provide strong defaults and documentation
Requirements
What you’ll need- 8+ years of software engineering experience (post-BS/MS), including building scalable backend systems or internal developer platforms
- Proficiency in Python or similar languages
- Deep knowledge of APIs, data stores, concurrency, and distributed systems
- Hands-on experience with web frameworks and service architectures, such as Flask/FastAPI, bounded context services, and microservices
- Understanding of designing clean, versioned APIs
- Familiarity with Redis, Kafka, SQL/NoSQL databases, vector databases, caching, and messaging technologies
- Experience writing high-quality, well-tested code
- Experience with unit/integration testing, static typing, and CI
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Passion for improving developer experience through tools or frameworks
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills
- Experience contributing to or maintaining internal libraries/frameworks is a plus
- Ability to work from the office three days a week in the hybrid in-office model
- Legal authorization to work in the United States for any employer is requested in the application
