About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage and progress complex fitness to practise investigations concerning nurses and midwives
- Gather, analyse and assess evidence, including medical records, CCTV and statements
- Determine whether nurses or midwives are safe to practise and identify risks requiring action
- Engage with nurses, midwives, patients, families, witnesses and representatives, including during difficult and emotionally sensitive circumstances
- Work with complex, high-risk and potentially distressing information
- Make thoughtful, evidence-based decisions while treating people with empathy and respect
- Collaborate with colleagues and specialist professionals to progress investigations effectively
- Identify and manage risks appropriately
- Build trust and adapt communication style for a range of audiences, including vulnerable or distressed people
- Deliver a fair, person-centred service supporting the NMC’s statutory duty to protect the public
Requirements
What you’ll need- Experience managing complex, sensitive or high-risk casework or investigations within a regulated, legal or policy-driven environment
- Ability to plan, manage and prioritise a varied caseload while meeting deadlines, quality standards and key performance indicators
- Ability to analyse complex and high-volume information, identify key risks and make evidence-based decisions
- Experience conducting interviews, gathering evidence and producing high-quality written reports or statements
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally and empathetically with a wide range of stakeholders
- Resilience, sound judgement and ability to navigate challenging and sensitive situations professionally
- Ability to manage complexity, balance competing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment
- Willingness and ability to review and work with sensitive and distressing material relating to fitness to practise cases
- Ability to commit to working in one of the office locations twice per week
- Successful completion of a recruitment assessment
- Subject to pre-employment checks; the role may become subject to DBS and further vetting checks
