About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop new process system designs supporting research and test facilities
- Plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate engineering work under the direction of a Senior Engineer
- Analyze design features and project requirements using engineering principles and best practices
- Develop technical reports and presentations for project management teams and clients
- Collaborate with structural, machine design, controls and instrumentation, and aerodynamics/fluid dynamics engineers
- Size and specify piping and ducting systems and components
- Design high-pressure cryogenic and pneumatic piping systems
- Design high-temperature and steam systems
- Design refrigeration, vacuum, fuel, and specialty HVAC systems
- Support the Project Manager and Senior Engineer in design and engineering efforts
- Participate in internal and external meetings and design reviews
- Gather information, interview stakeholders, conduct studies, perform calculations, and prepare layouts and sketches
- Develop engineering calculations and specifications and support engineering drawings
- Meet project budgets, schedules, and performance objectives
- Support design reviews, factory acceptance testing, construction activities, startup, and commissioning as needed
Requirements
What you’ll need- US citizenship is required
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Aerospace, or a related engineering field from an ABET-accredited program
- Strong mechanical and process engineering analytical skills
- Experience managing project scope, schedules, and budgets
- Knowledge of ASME B31.1 and B31.3 and ASME B&PV Code
- Knowledge of thermodynamics, compressible and incompressible fluid flow, thermal sciences, and process systems
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent oral and written communication, technical problem-solving, and organizational skills
- FE/EIT certification preferred
- Prior process systems design experience preferred
- Experience designing and/or maintaining mechanical process systems preferred
- Experience with AutoCAD, AutoPipe, Caesar II, Mathcad, Creo, and AFT preferred
- Previous DOE nuclear, DoD, NASA, or test facility experience preferred
