About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Execute Small Modular Reactor and nuclear fuel cycle facility projects
- Develop and conceptualize system architecture, flow diagrams, and piping/instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) for nuclear facilities, auxiliary systems, or fuel cycle models
- Evaluate systems, structures, and components for chemical safety, criticality controls, radiation shielding, and defense-in-depth under normal, off-normal, and accident conditions
- Ensure engineering designs align with local, state, and federal standards, including DOE or NRC regulations
- Select, test, and specify mechanical components, valves, and vessels
- Evaluate test or validation data to improve existing nuclear facility efficiency
- Develop process drawings, Process Flow Diagrams, and Process & Instrumentation Diagrams/Engineering Flow Diagrams
- Prepare, check, and/or approve mass, energy, and flow balances and pipe and equipment sizing calculations
- Prepare specifications for process equipment
- Ensure design deliverables meet relevant standards, regulations, customer standards, and nuclear quality assurance standards
- Ensure design consultants and subcontractors deploy suitably qualified and experienced personnel
- Develop resolutions to technical issues and implement necessary change control
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related field
- Minimum of two (2) years post-baccalaureate experience
- Previous experience providing engineering support to nuclear facility design, construction or operations
- Strong communication skills in a challenging, multi-tiered environment
- Strong organizational skills
- Knowledge of key NRC regulations, design codes and standards for commercial nuclear facilities
- Knowledge in the use of related design software codes, including process simulation software
