About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Build the authoring experience that encodes a firm's audit methodology into configurable, multi-step agents
Design the agent definition model, including steps, tools, inputs, thresholds, planning behaviour and human-in-the-loop gates
Choose abstractions that enable non-engineers to create consistent agents without writing prompts from scratch
Collaborate with the Agent Runtime team so authored agents compile onto the base agent, tools and orchestration layer
Own versioning, publishing and governance in the Agent Library
Enable builders to test and evaluate agents before publishing
Instrument authored agents in production and use Grafana, OpenTelemetry and MLflow traces to identify breakdowns
Implement security, access-control and audit-trail requirements aligned with OWASP GenAI
Own features end-to-end across the Python stack, FastAPI, Pydantic, MongoDB, Azure and React
Architect services with clear contracts for other Alwin teams
Contribute through code reviews, mentorship and documented technical decisions
Break down epics and manage ambiguity with product, design and audit methodology experts

Requirements

What you’ll need

6+ years in software engineering
Strong, production-grade Python
Hands-on experience building and operating agentic systems in production, including control loops, tool calling, planning versus execution, retries and fallbacks
Experience with LLM APIs and agent frameworks across more than one model provider
Experience building data-driven web APIs on a major cloud platform
Strong fundamentals in software architecture, system design and data modelling
Track record of owning product features end-to-end, including frontend work in React or a similar framework
Experience with unit, integration and E2E testing strategies
Proficiency with AI-assisted engineering; the company uses Claude Code
Excellent communication and ability to work directly with auditors and product partners
Experience with low-code/configuration products, workflow designers, rule engines or DSLs preferred
Experience with agent evaluation, including datasets, offline and online experiments, and failure classification preferred
Experience with versioning, permissions and publishing in a multi-tenant platform preferred
Experience with durable workflow engines such as Temporal or multi-agent orchestration in production preferred
Document processing experience, including OCR, classification and structured extraction preferred
Domain experience in audit methodology, accounting or fintech preferred
Must be based within commuting distance of the New York City office
Must be willing to work in the NYC office at least three days a week
