Key responsibilities & impact- Advise pharmaceutical and biotechnology customers on automation decisions
- Translate business, process and regulatory requirements into automation solutions
- Lead customer workshops, site assessments and technical discussions
- Identify requirements, evaluate options and develop solution concepts
- Develop automation strategies, solution architectures and implementation roadmaps
- Support projects from concept development and FEED through detailed engineering, system integration, testing, commissioning and handover
- Guide multidisciplinary engineering teams and review technical designs
- Provide specialist engineering input
- Advise on cGMP, GAMP 5, 21 CFR Part 11, computer system validation, data integrity and ALCOA+ requirements
- Support risk assessments, change control, technical documentation and customer validation requirements
- Collaborate with Sales and Proposal teams on technical proposals, project scope, estimates and customer presentations
- Explain technical recommendations and business value to engineering specialists and senior management
- Identify technical risks and dependencies with project leadership
- Coordinate technical handover to Lifecycle Services after project completion
- Share expertise, mentor engineers and maintain high engineering and quality standards
Requirements
What you’ll need- 10-15 years of relevant engineering experience, preferably including substantial experience within Life Sciences, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals or another regulated process industry
- Strong knowledge of industrial process automation and control systems, including DCS or PLC architectures, system integration and related applications
- Experience in customer facing technical consulting, FEED, solution architecture or leading complex automation projects in GMP regulated environments
- Solid understanding of cGMP, GAMP 5, 21 CFR Part 11, computer system validation and data integrity principles such as ALCOA+
- Experience translating customer requirements into technical specifications, solution designs and executable engineering projects
- Ability to lead technical discussions, facilitate workshops and provide guidance to multidisciplinary engineering teams
- A bachelor's or master's degree in engineering, automation, instrumentation and control, chemical engineering or a related discipline; equivalent relevant professional experience and qualifications will also be considered
- Strong communication skills and ability to explain complex technical subjects clearly to customers and internal stakeholders
- Fluency in English is required
- Proficiency in Dutch and/or French would be an advantage
- Position is based in Belgium and may require travel within the Benelux region
- Experience with Emerson DeltaV, SCADA systems, historians, batch applications or system integration would be valuable
- Familiarity with CIP/SIP, sterile manufacturing and batch processing would be valuable
- Training or certification in GAMP 5, CSV, CQV, DeltaV, functional safety or industrial cybersecurity would be valuable
- Experience with technical proposals, commercial consulting or project management would be valuable
