About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Review bid documents, drawings, specifications, and scopes of work to develop detailed quantity take-offs
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes
- Prepare complete cost estimates covering labor, material, equipment, and overhead
- Assemble and submit proposals and bid packages
- Review quote suggestions and site photos submitted by field technicians
- Partner with Business Development and Sales teams on RFP/RFQ responses and client presentations
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site walks to assess project scope and risk
- Support pricing strategy discussions
- Participate in project turnover meetings with Project Management and Operations
- Maintain historical cost data and unit pricing
- Track win/loss rates and provide input on estimating process improvements
- Build and maintain subcontractor and supplier relationships
- Qualify new subcontractors and suppliers
- Negotiate pricing and scope with vendors
- Source parts, materials, and pricing from key suppliers
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 3-5 years of estimating experience in facilities maintenance, construction, or a related trade
- Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Excel
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and costs
- Experience estimating facilities maintenance, repair, and capital improvement projects preferred
- Familiarity with blueprint reading and construction documents preferred
- Strong analytical, organizational, and negotiation skills preferred
- Proficiency with work order management (WOM) platforms preferred
- Field technicians with a track record of self-generating and selling their own quotes are encouraged to apply as a path into estimating
